Hi everyone! My name is Marissa and along with my Uncle Steve (left) and his friend Carole (pictured at right), we will be running the New York Marathon to promote awareness and raise money for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation. The name of our team is Miles4Movement.

At the age of 9, my brother Josh was diagnosed with a rare genetic neurological movement disorder called Dystonia. Up until his diagnosis, he did what any another young kid would do. He would play sports, be active, and have a smile that would light up any room. After his diagnosis, Josh took 25 pills a day to help control his symptoms. Three years ago he decided to undergo deep brain stimulation surgery and showed great improvement throughout the years. However, there still is no cure.

Josh has always been our number one supporter and growing up seeing the battles and obstacles he has endured motivated us to run the New York Marathon to raise awareness for Dystonia. Each day for Josh and many others who suffer from this rare disorder can feel like a marathon.

Even though there is currently no cure for Dystonia, with everyone’s kind donations we will be one step closer to finding a cure. So please support the cause because every dollar counts!!
