It’ll be a decade this November since my dystonia diagnosis at the age of 30. That came after nearly 4 years of misdiagnoses and a lot of head-scratching from some incredibly smart doctors. Regardless of how long you have known me, you’ve all seen the challenges and triumphs dystonia poses. This is why my family and I are so grateful to be working with the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF), the nation’s largest dystonia-dedicated 501(c)(3) organization, to raise awareness and to support research through the Dorothy Feiss Science and Research Fund (named for my beloved and optimistic grandmother).
Please join us on September 8, 2019, at the Bronx Zoo (Southern Boulevard Gate) to roam wild and raise dystonia awareness. Registration will be open from 8:30-10: 30 AM. We’ll meet-up for a special lunch celebration from 12:00-2:00 PM in the Dancing Crane Pavilion. More logistics and details to follow by email.
All donors will receive and be listed on the back of an event T-shirt (deadline for that is August 26). Please be sure to complete the form below by indicating the number of Zoo admission tickets you need (participants only) and your crew’s shirt sizes as well as how you’d like your family name listed. To those attending, tickets and T-shirts will be distributed at the Zoo on September 8th. To those who will be missed, your shirts will be mailed.
Last year, more than 140 friends and family joined us at the Bronx Zoo and along with countless other generous supporters together helped raise over $50,000. That money funded the first of a 3-year research project to engineer a revolutionary new generation of deep brain stimulation (DBS) devices to treat dystonia and other neurological diseases. Funds raised this year will continue to support this groundbreaking work. If it were not for DBS, which I had surgically done 7 years ago, I would not be able to roam the Zoo or be strong and healthy enough to do it as a mom with Daisy by my side.
We are beyond lucky to have such amazing family and friends. Thank you in advance for your (continued) support!
