My dog is a 10 year old female yellow lab mix named Sydney. Sydney was found apparently hit by a car. As a result of the accident she suffered a concussion, broken bones in her snout, the loss of several teeth, and a chunk of her tongue was severed. Lab Rescuers pulled her from the shelter and got her medical attention. Sydney is one of three rescue dogs my husband and I have adopted. Sydney, despite all she has been through is such a sweet loving, affectionate dog with a zest for life.

I was diagnosed with Dopa-Responsive Dystonia (DRD) Spring 2010. Walking and standing straight are challenges I face daily, taking an emotional toll on my outlook of life. Through Sydney’s zest for life and her unconditional love I accept and face my challenges with the same zest, knowing life is a special gift and each day should be appreciated and lived to its fullest. With Sydney’s help, she and I have set a goal of walking 3-4 times a week, 2-3 miles each time during the month of February to raise visibility about Dystonia and for me to continue my determination to not let Dystonia rule my life.
