Other Ways to Give
Every Gift Makes a Difference
Thank you for supporting the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.
Donations can be sent by mail to:

Please call us at 800-377-3978 if you would like to make a donation by telephone.
Give at your own pace with recurring gifts. You can choose to give weekly, quarterly, monthly, or annually, at any amount.
Recurring gifts are both effective and convenient, and provide DMRF with a steady and predictable source of income that will fund years of dystonia research and support for those suffering with every form of dystonia. All monthly donors also receive special Foundation updates.
Your monthly donation can also be changed or canceled at any time.
Did you know that many companies offer a matching gift program to encourage philanthropy among their employees? And that some companies will even match gifts made by spouses and retirees?
By simply completing a matching gift form, you may be able to double, or even triple, the impact of your gift!
Please consider recommending DMRF as an organization to support through your donor advised fund. DAF grants are not subject to a processing fee, which means 100 percent of the grant goes to support our mission. If you have a fund with Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, BNY Mellon or Greater Kansas City Community Foundation you can make your gift using DAF Direct.
There are a number of planned giving options to build a legacy through the DMRF, either by joining our Legacy Society or making a specific gift. Please contact Director of Development Debbie Durrer at email@example.com to request information on joining the Legacy Society or read more out more about,
Planned giving options can include:
- Wills & Bequests
- Life Income Gifts: Charitable Trusts & Gift Annuities
- Qualified Retirement Plans
- Real Estate
If you are 70½ or older, you can jump-start your legacy giving by making a tax-free gift from your IRA. Your contribution will lay the crucial groundwork for vital research supported by Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) now and in the years ahead.
Normally, a distribution from your IRA is taxed as ordinary income. However, if you are 70½ years of age or older, you are eligible to make a direct gift from your IRA to a qualified charitable organization, like the DMRF, during any tax year. The tax free transfer allows you to support vital research and can count toward your required minimum distribution.
- You must be at least 70½ years of age.
- You must transfer funds* directly from your IRA administrator to the DMRF.
- Distributions can be made only from a traditional or Roth IRA. Retirement plans such as pensions, and 401(k) or 403(b) plans, must first be transferred to an IRA.
- The maximum distribution is $100,000, per person during any tax year; a married couple with separate IRAs may give up to $200,000 per year.
*The transfer to a qualified charity is tax free and is not included in your adjusted gross income (AGI), thus there is no charitable deduction. A transfer is not subject to the 50% of AGI limitation on charitable deductions.
An IRA Charitable Rollover may be especially beneficial if…
- You are already giving at your 50% deduction limit.
- You do not itemize your deductions.
- You would like to make an additional contribution to the DMRF.
Seek Professional Guidance
As with many tax questions, a decision to make a qualified charitable distribution is best done after “crunching the numbers” to estimate, in advance, the effect of such a choice on an individual’s tax situation. In this effort, the advice and guidance of trained, experienced tax and financial professionals is strongly recommended.
For wire transfer payment to the DMRF, ask your representative to call the Foundation at
312-755-0198 for specific transfer instructions. . If DMRF is already in your future giving plans, please let us know so that we can add you to our Legacy Society.

STEP 1 – Notify the DMRF of your intended stock donation by calling: 312-755-0198 or emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will then provide you with the appropriate stock transfer information.
STEP 2 – Contact your broker to transfer your shares.
If you are a federal government or military employee and would like to support the work of the DMRF, please take part in the Combined Federal Campaign by entering Dystonia Medical Research Foundation on your pledge card.
The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.
In addition to purchasing items through our online store, online retailers Amazon and Ebay provide opportunities for a percentage of sales to be returned to the DMRF. If you sell items on eBay and wish to donate a portion of proceeds to support the DMRF, or would like to bid on items our supporters are selling, click here.
