This Thanksgiving morning, my son David is going to run his first 5k race in my hometown of Massapequa Park, NY. To make this event special, he decided that he would run for a cause.
David has a very special relationship with his grandpa (My dad), who has been suffering for the last few years from Dystonia. We decided that we would run the race together to try and raise awareness for this debilitating disease.
What exactly is dystonia? Dystonia is a neurological disorder that causes excessive and involuntary muscle contractions. These muscle contractions result in abnormal muscle movements and body postures, making it difficult for individuals to control their movements. The movements and postures may be painful. Dystonia is a movement disorder in the Parkinson’s family. There is no known cure and it is very debilitating
Your donation will have a direct impact on those who live with the challenges of dystonia every day. The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation will use these funds to furthering the fundamental understanding of what dystonia is. It will help to uncover the mechanisms in the nervous system that lead to symptoms and discover targets for new and improved therapy to treat dystonia.
Please consider donating to this amazing cause and help David learn about the power of taking action for positive change.
